1. Read regularly

The process of writing is mostly composed of reading and very little of writing itself. Reading allows you to have an idea of the different styles used in writing. When you learn these styles, you have the ability to incorporate it in your own writing style to make it unique from the others. Reading regularly also allows you to expand your vocabulary as a writer and gives you a lot of word options to use for your sentences and for you to express your thoughts on paper.

2. Master spelling

As a writer, you must master each spelling of the word you want to use. Correct spelling is a must because if you misspell a word – it negates the essence of your sentence. Wrong spelling of words usually diverts the reader’s attention to it. It is sort of the same as using the wrong grammar – because the reader will start focusing on correcting the mistake and will lose his or her train of thought while reading.

3. Know the definition of each word

Along with mastering the spelling of the words, you must also know the definition of each word that you want to use. Using the inappropriate word to express your thoughts might express another that is not inclined with what you want to say. Also, there are words that have multiple definitions. Knowing each definition will help you in using each word appropriately in a sentence.

4. Outline your thoughts

Before you write an entry, you can always make an outline on what you want put on the paper. Outlining thoughts will allow you to simplify the main topics and sub-topics and will help you write much faster without lingering away from your main point. Also making an outline will help you organize your thoughts in whatever kind of order you want them to appear in.

5. Proofread

When you just finished writing your entry, it is always wise to read it twice or more to check for mistakes. Think of it this way – when you first write an entry, you are prone to grammatical mistakes, misuse of word, etc. By proofreading your work, you can edit it in order to make it a lot better than the first time you wrote it. You become more concise and precise when you proofread and will definitely help you in your future writing.
