If you’re planning on studying abroad, then chances are you will need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL.
The TOEFL is an exam which measures the ability of non-native English speakers to speak and write in North American English. It is commonly a requirement for university admission, especially in Canada, the US, New Zealand, and Australia. This means the type of language proficiency that will be tested is for academic settings.
So if you’re going to study abroad, then it’s time to gear up for the TOEFL.
Here’s what to expect when you take the exam.
It has four sections: Writing, Listening, Speaking and Reading

For both exams types, you will need to accomplish four sections.
The reading section consists of passages you will have to read and then answer questions about. The questions test rhetorical functions such as cause-effect, compare-contrast, and argumentation.
For the listening section, you will need to listen to six to nine passages, all of which are three to five minutes in length and usually include student conversations and academic lectures or discussions.
During the speaking section, you will be asked to verbally answer questions and express their opinions. You will be evaluated on how you are able to speak spontaneously and how well you convey your message.
Finally, for the writing section, you will be tested on how well you write for academic topics. You will summarize a passage or a lecture, and then write an essay about your opinion or choice.
